ports

I'm still trying to figure out which cruise to go on next. I love getting off the boat and exploring the ports! My husband and I love beaches, excursions, and a little shopping. We are not big drinkers so the bars won't be a huge deal. I've searched the port board already but I love to hear your opinions. Here is the list.

Grand Turk

St Thomas

San Juan, Puerto Rico (5:00pm-12:00am I'm not too sure about walking around at night)

Nassau

St Maarten

Half Moon Cay

Belize

Costa Maya

Key West

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

Any experiences or comments would be helpful!

San Juan is probably one of the safest ports to walk around in at night.

Have have done it a few times with just my DD's and i, safety was never in question, everything is lit up and nice.

Good to know! What did you do there at night?

You can do a city walking tour, walk up to the fort, shop, go on the luminescence water kayak tour.

belize, no where really to walk around, if you want to go to a beach you have to go to one of the island cays.

All the other islands that you mentioned, all have great beaches, except Key West, i have never been there so i can't comment.

If you're beach goers and not into the bars, there's not a whole lot for that 5 pm to midnight stop in San Juan. We did it on the Victory. The fort closes at 5, I think. If you gamble, you could go to the casino. It's a shame it's an evening stop, because I would imagine the beaches are lovely. If you enjoy the ports, you're basically losing one on that itinerary (imo).

That is what I was thinking! It's such a shame because it pretty much took that cruise off the list.

I think we are going to book the cruise with Half Moon Cay, Grand Turk, and Nassua. I can't seem to find much on Half Moon Cay or Grand Turk. I just keep hearing they are nice beaches and thats what I want!

Let me suggest a book that I am currently reading...Insight Guides "Caribbean Cruises" from the Discovery Channel. It's a very informative book with lots of pictures of all the places you mentioned and a whole lot more! Between this book and these boards, they are the reasons I am up more than half the night....lol.
