BeachTeach Posted April 22, 2007 #1 Share Posted April 22, 2007 I'm still trying to figure out which cruise to go on next. I love getting off the boat and exploring the ports! My husband and I love beaches, excursions, and a little shopping. We are not big drinkers so the bars won't be a huge deal. I've searched the port board already but I love to hear your opinions. Here is the list. Grand Turk St Thomas San Juan, Puerto Rico (5:00pm-12:00am I'm not too sure about walking around at night) Nassau St Maarten Half Moon Cay Belize Costa Maya Key West Ocho Rios, Jamaica Any experiences or comments would be helpful! caribbean dreams Posted April 22, 2007 #3 Share Posted April 22, 2007 San Juan is probably one of the safest ports to walk around in at night. Have have done it a few times with just my DD's and i, safety was never in question, everything is lit up and nice.

caribbean dreams Posted April 22, 2007 #5 Share Posted April 22, 2007 Good to know! What did you do there at night? You can do a city walking tour, walk up to the fort, shop, go on the luminescence water kayak tour. belize, no where really to walk around, if you want to go to a beach you have to go to one of the island cays. All the other islands that you mentioned, all have great beaches, except Key West, i have never been there so i can't comment.
tinmanswife Posted April 22, 2007 #6 Share Posted April 22, 2007 If you're beach goers and not into the bars, there's not a whole lot for that 5 pm to midnight stop in San Juan. We did it on the Victory. The fort closes at 5, I think. If you gamble, you could go to the casino. It's a shame it's an evening stop, because I would imagine the beaches are lovely. If you enjoy the ports, you're basically losing one on that itinerary (imo).

I think we are going to book the cruise with Half Moon Cay, Grand Turk, and Nassua. I can't seem to find much on Half Moon Cay or Grand Turk. I just keep hearing they are nice beaches and thats what I want!

Let me suggest a book that I am currently reading...Insight Guides "Caribbean Cruises" from the Discovery Channel. It's a very informative book with lots of pictures of all the places you mentioned and a whole lot more! Between this book and these boards, they are the reasons I am up more than half the night....lol.
cruzin w chris Posted April 23, 2007 #9 Share Posted April 23, 2007 st. thomas is beautiful and good shopping, ocho rios- if you like being relentlessly bugged by the locals to buy, buy, buy and possibly being hit up to but drugs then this is the place for you. we will never step foot in jamaica ever again. just our opinion. tinmanswife Posted April 23, 2007 #10 Share Posted April 23, 2007 I have been to Half Moon Cay and it is beautiful. It's Carnival/Holland America's private island. Go to the HAL boards and you will find a lot about it, pictures too. That is your dream beach day!
