Bev Posted May 12, 2007 #1 Share Posted May 12, 2007 Hi I'd appreciate some advice about which side of the train we should sit on for the White Pass train ride. Thanks! Bev
cruiseokie Posted May 12, 2007 #2 Share Posted May 12, 2007 Going up the mountain you should probably sit on the left side but the windows are so big that you can see from either side and the train turns around and comes back down with you on the oppisite side. When we went last July, our train car was not full so we were able to move around for better pictures and once the train gets going they let you stand outside the car and take pictures as well. We loved it and had time to explore Skagway after (we did the earliest time).
MilliesMom Posted May 12, 2007 #3 Share Posted May 12, 2007 If you are doing the 3 1/2 hour train ride, it won't matter. At the top of the mountain, when they put the engine on the other end of the train they ask people on the left side to switch with people on the right side. The back of the seat moves too, so you will now be facing what had been the back of the train (and on the way down is the front). Hope that isn't too confusing. If you are taking the train up, then switching to the bus ... sit on the left side if possible. You still will be able to see LOTS from the right, but left is better. cruiseokie Posted May 12, 2007 #4 Share Posted May 12, 2007 Milliesmom, I so forgot about how the backs of the seats switch, you are so right that the train doesn't turn around the people do!!!:D
Vmalcolm Posted May 13, 2007 #5 Share Posted May 13, 2007 We just took the train from Skagway to Fraser on May 7th. Snow was up over the cars in some places. I'd opt for the left side of the train if heading north. You can peer over the edge and down into the valley the train runs along. Mostly rock wall on the right. Bev Posted May 13, 2007 Author #6 Share Posted May 13, 2007 Thanks so much. Left it is! Bev
qiangf2 Posted May 13, 2007 #7 Share Posted May 13, 2007 Yeah, train on the right side of the valley. So you try to ride up on the left hand side
Cruisin' granny Posted May 14, 2007 #8 Share Posted May 14, 2007 And, it just might happen (as it did for us two years ago) that there will be no one in the seat across the aisle from you and you'll not be asked to swap. So we sat on the left going up and on the right going down. We were on an afternoon trip, walked from the ship and chose one of the cars near the back.
