pomonok Posted August 10, 2004 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2004 We disembark the Dawn Princess in Anchorage Monday, Aug. 23, and won't be flying home for two days. What would people recommend as far as tours, sights etc. We understand Denali is too far to drive. Is there a one day or day and a half bus tour there? Would like to at least see Mt Mckinley if possible.
Budget Queen Posted August 11, 2004 #2 Share Posted August 11, 2004 You need to get going with plans. Best is to rent a car- will make the BEST use of your short time. Head north and overnight in Talkeetna- then take a flightseeing tour of McKinley- with only 2 days your chances of viewing it from the ground are slim. Stop frequently along the way- Eklutna Spirt house tours, Eagle River Nature Center, Wasilla Sled dog headquarters, side trip to Independence Mine, Glacier trekking with MICA guides. Head south for frequent stops along Turnagain Arm??? Plenty to do, make your plans wisely. Head to your library and take out a copy of THE MILEPOST, and Alaska travel books. And no you do not have enough time to consider Denali Park.
