dixie166 Posted June 1, 2007 #1 Share Posted June 1, 2007 When we disembark at Red Hook , my family would like to leave the car at the pier an extra day and go visit Ellis Island. Any suggestions on the best way to get there and back? Would like to see my mother's name on the wall of immigrants.
Betsy's Mom Posted June 1, 2007 #2 Share Posted June 1, 2007 I believe that the parking at the Red Hook pier is locked and unattended unless a ship is in. I do not think you could leave your car there overnight and get it the next day. Just a thought... B.

You can't leave the car overnight at the pier when no ship is in the harbor although I do believe you can talk you way in and get it because that does sometimes happen(especially on the transatlantics and when someone has to get off a ship in an emergency) but it would be easier to take your car to the covered garage located at Atlantic and Court Street and leave it there for 24 hours for $20.00. Its close to most subways and you can take the subway 4-5 trains to Bowling green(ONE STOP) which is within walking distance of the Ellis Island Ferry. During teh summer the tickets to the Statute of Liberty(its the same Ferry as the one to Ellis Ilsnd) sell out quickly with lines forming in the EARLY am.
