Ventura - Cruise Director

I saw in the 'Inspire' magazine that Ventura’s cruise director is going to be Neil Oliver, has anyone been on a cruise with him before? If so what is he like? A couple of people have said that he is great. :)

He's the best Cruise Director we've experienced in 25 cruises.

 

Some are invisible. This guy's everywhere and is great fun!

Dear E201 (oh dear, that makes you sound like a food additive!),

 

We were on Neil's table for our last Christmas Cruise and his birthday is on Christmas Eve (as I recall).

 

He's a really lovely man, makes time for everyone and is a credit to the fleet.

how often do the CD's change - we're so hoping that it will be a strong character when we sail, especially as the RCI guys are so great

We had Neil on the Old Arcadia he was great fun, we had him last year on the new Arcadia and must admit I did not see him as much then again the ship was a little quiet again I think this is an arcadia thing.

 

I always find its not just the Cruise director but the other members of the team that are important over the years P&O have employed some poor members. Not sure of the guys name but the DJ on the Arcadia last year was just plain rude. Made comments like " I would not want to come on a cruise etc. he could not Dj to save his life. I hope P&O have shipped him off!!!

We will be with Ventura to the Carribean in December 2008 and your comments re the Cruise Director should hopefully add up to a great cruise.:)

I am always a little surprised as to why

the post of cruise director can have such an impact

on a persons cruise. It appears that they have little

or no influence on the type or quality of the entertainment.

These decisions and the bookings of acts are made in Southampton.

The CD's function appears to be, scheduling the entertainment and managing the troops.

However in saying that Neil Oliver is a good entertainer in his own right

as is Hughie Taylor (albeit you get the impression at times that some of the customers get up his nose)
