Fishing in Hawaii

Does anyone know if the various islands require fishing licences for either freshwater or saltwater fishing? :D

 

We're on the PoAm (8/11/07 sailing) and I was wondering if I should bring along my "Pocket Fisherman" and some assorted equipment.

I was shopping in Hilo last year and I wandered in the sporting goods department and asked the employee what license my spouse would need to go fishing. She said no license is required if fishing from the shore. She said a license is required if you charter a boat.

Do not need a license for shore fishing, nor for charter boat. Do need license for fresh water.

 

They do catch a fish like a jack off sea walls around Nawiliwili harbor using bait and light tackle.
