Newbie NCL Jewel BE Cabin GTY Question

Howdy! I'm a new member and my new wife and I are new to cruising! (That's a lot of NEW, eh?):)

We are looking into taking our first cruise on the Aug 5th sailing of the 7-day Barcelona roundtrip but haven't booked it yet.

I've read through MANY posts on here and they've been very helpful!

We see that we can book a BE (balcony) cabin but only as a guarantee. It is only about $100 more than an inside guaranteed room. We are slightly concerned about being near elevators/nightclub, etc. but don't want to shell out the extra $$$ for a specific cabin. It seems like if we want to book a particular room, we'd end up paying more even for inside lower level rooms.

Does anyone know why the GTY rates between inside, oceanview, balcony, and even mini-suite are so similar on this cruise?

Is there any way to see what rooms are available other the the 6 that typically show up per category if it's not a GTY?

Any advice would be great! Thanks!

When you book a guaranteed cabin be prepared to get the worst cabin in the category you booked because that is what you have paid for. You may or may not get upgraded to something better. If you want a specific cabn or location you will usually have to pay more for it.

Cabin pricing is always a factor of supply and demand. The current pricing structure suggests there may be an excess of balcony and suite cabins. Exactly how many cabins are available at any point in time is known only to the cruise line. Think of it as if it were a poker hand. Some online booking engines show some of the cabins and create the perception that they are showing all cabins.

A travel agent can find out if a specific cabin or category is available for booking. Hope this information helps.

I called NCL about this. They only have a few inside cabins left but around 100 balcony cabins. We have been near the elevator on may cruises and have not had a problem with noise. A nightclub below could be a problem but I do not think this os the case with BE cabins. It is nice to have a balcony if you can do it.
