Time Factor

I'm undecided about our stop in St Maarten. We love this island, more particuliarity the French side and Grand Case. Our time allowed is from 10am to 5pm. Knowing where we want to go, would a private taxi work best, permitting us time to travel from one end of the island to the other, stop have lunch, swim a bit and get back to the ship? Has anyone done this? Any information would be appreciated.

Sailgal, we have been to St. Maarten several times. You will have lots or time to go to Marigot cafes and the beaches. Shops closed on Sundats last time. Use a private taxi. No problem.

We love taking the local van/buses. It is $1.25 to go anywhere they go. They do not go to Orient beach but neither do we. Most are white vans with a big sign in the window saying where they go. You can stop them and ask if they go where you want to go. We easliy got one to Marigot. There are no bus stops, you just flag them down. Last year there was no trouble getting back from Mullet Bay but we had a wait for one at from Brie Rouge (a great beach) the year before. We went to Marigot then a beach. Just plan on getting back to the ship in plenty of time, I'd say leave wherever you are by 3.
