How terribly sad for his wife and child.

Here is a news article:

A Sydney man has died on the Pacific cruise holiday won for himself and his family in a radio competition.

Police in Noumea are investigating the 31-year-old man's death at sea in the early hours of Tuesday morning aboard the P&O cruise ship Pacific Sun.

P&O spokeswoman Sandy Olsen said a fellow passenger found the man in a public area of the ship and alerted staff.

There is no evidence to suggest the man's death was suspicious, she said.

The man, his wife, and their 18-month-old child, were among a large extended family group on the eight day Pacific cruise that left Sydney on Friday.

They won the holiday in a competition run by Sydney radio station 2GB.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) says it is giving consular assistance to the man's family.

The ship was on its way to Ouvea, having left port at the Isle of Pines, when the man's death was discovered.

It later diverted to Noumea where local police have boarded the liner to investigate.

The Pacific Sun is due to leave Noumea on Thursday and arrive on schedule in Sydney on Saturday.

The man's death follows the controversy surrounding the 2002 P&O cruise ship death of Dianne Brimble.

A NSW coroner recommended charges be laid against two men last month after a 16 month inquest into the 42-year-old Brisbane woman's drug related death aboard the Pacific Sky.

How very sad :( I saw the story on the news this morning. Guess that explains yesterday's diversion to Noumea instead of arrival at Oueva. The last I heard was that his death isn't believed to be related to an earlier fight and that it isn't being considered 'suspicious'. Very sad for his family and fellow passengers though :(
