Yet another reason to cruise

Recommended Posts

Dengue fever surging in Puerto Rico. Mosquito-borne disease reaches worst levels since 1994 epidemic.

While that is a headline that should concern all travelers to Puerto Rico, some of the info I found was quite interesting.

As far as prevention, you really can't. However, the article goes on to say tourists at risk are those staying on the island for more then 2 days, tourists that are staying in less then sanitary hotels/homes with or near standing water which is breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Best way to avoid getting bit? Wear long sleeves, use a spray with DEET, and stay inside air conditioned areas when ever possible.

(One slight wrinkle, if you are pregnant you might want to consult your OB/GYN if you plan to go to the island for any period of time)

Cruising to Puerto Rico, if done with the knowledge that this virus is reaching epidemic proportions, and you take some precautionary measures, (your air conditioned cabin being but one of them) then cruising would be the travel method of choice hands down don't ya think? :D

If traveling to Puerto Rico this article will be helpful. I also see where parts of Texas are having trouble with that nasty bug!
