janets Posted August 10, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2007 We will be ending our Baltic cruise in Amsterdam and were thinking of taking the train to Paris. Has anyone done that? Would that be better than getting to and from airport in both cities? Airfare is actually cheaper than the train
Rare HeinBloed Posted August 10, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2007 It's so easy: from the Amsterdam Passenger Terminal it's one or two stops (depends where you board) to Central Station by tram or 5 minutes by taxi. From there check the schedule of THALYS: It's the high-speed-train-connection from Amsterdam Central to Paris Nord. The train stops at the airport in Amsterdam as well as at the airport in Paris Charles de Gaulle. Transit time 4 hours 9 minutes. O.k. 10 minutes to Central Station (but it's same if you take THALYS or flight...) 30 minutes to the airport... 20 minutes until you check-in... 40 minutes until you are boarding incl. security check 75 minutes until you are in Paris CDG 40 minutes until you get your baggage 15 minutes until you are at the commuter train station 40 minutes until you are at Paris Nord Let's count... 300 minutes = 5 hours... hmm... and the train from Amsterdam CS to Paris Nord 4 hours 9 minutes... and no transfers, no long-walk, no security-check, no free-of-charge drink, no free-of-charge dutch weak roll, no check-in, no baggage-claim... hmm... very difficult to decide... Regards, HeinBloed N.B. Have you checked this special on the internet??? Are you sure that your airticket price incl. all taxes and fees??? http://www.thalys.com/nl/en/summeroffer-2007-comfort1?newBuyingCountry=nl
Meribeth Posted August 10, 2007 #3 Share Posted August 10, 2007 We are taking the train next month after a cruise, just as HeinBloed has described. Watch the Thalys web site for deals on the price. We got a 39 euro fare on a 2 day sale in July.
