spealex Posted August 13, 2007 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2007 :eek:I know that cruise ships will try to avoid being in the path of a hurricane, but what happens to the cruise. Do they ever cancel a sailing, I know they deviate ships due to weather but when a hurricane threatens the whole caribbean basin, do they start doing cruises to Bermuda or just cancel the cruise? Also, if you purchase shore excursions on a cruise that has the itinerary changed, do you get your money back or is it given as a shipboard credit? crazycruizer Posted August 13, 2007 #2 Share Posted August 13, 2007 When we went to the Wester Carribean 2 years ago on Navigator of the Seas, we were out during the biggest hurricane ever on record (Wilma) they were able to steer clear of the hurricane we got to Ocho Rios on a different day then we were supposed to and we never made it to Cozumel or Grand Cayman, they did substitute in San Juan and then on the extra sea day the captain opened up the bars for 1 hour of free drinks (really not a big perk for those who don't drink). They kept saying we may have to stay out extra days because they weren't sure if they were going to be able to get us into Miami, but it ended up we got in on time and they got the next weeks passengers loaded in and out of Miami with just a few hours to spare before Miami was hit. Any excursions we had booked (even with outside private companies) were very accomodating and refunded any money or deposits we had paid for missed excursions.
