Ensenada

Most people use the cruise line bus transfers. It takes about 2-3 hours plus whatever delay there is at the US-Mexican Border. It is my understanding that you will have to get off the bus and walk a couple hundred yards on foot to go through the check point at the border. I have used the cruise line transfer going the other way from Tha San Diego airport and it worked out fairly well. They gave us a box lunch and a bottle of water for the trip. There was a small toilet on the bus.

There are also some small airplane trips that can be had for big $$. Also there are limo services out of San Diego that drive Lincoln TownCars into Mexico. They only operate when they can get accross the border in a relatively rapid timeframe.

One last option is to get a Cab in Ensenada that will take you to the border. You walk across through the border checkpoint and then catch another cab on the US side to the San diego airport. That should make a most interesting trip. No guartantees though on your comfort and safety though.

Would a 1:30pm flight out of SanDiego be ok to book?

You'll probably be OK. However nobody can tell you how long it will take to cross the border. That is the unknown. They are getting better at it but depending on time of day, traffic, and security levels it could take many hours at worst.

The buses leave early so that's in your favor. At best you could be at the airport by 10:00 AM or so.

  • 2 weeks later...

If you take a cab or the bus line called ABC buses at Ensenada, do you have to get off the bus or out of the cab and walk with your luggage to the border and across it??

Where as the cruise line bus you dont have to get off the bus with the luggage in tow..??

Thanks

Marlene
