Private guide to Granada and the Alhambra

Recommended Posts

Yes the Alambra is definitely worth seeing and Granada is a lovely city. I would try to find a guide and find out the price though if you do go on a ships tour you will be assured that the ship will wait for you whereas being so far away from the port, a guide may have car trouble etc. and then you would be stuck.

Don't miss seeing it though as the architecuture and the gardens are wonderful and the history is very interesting.

We stopped in Almeria in 2000. We took the ship's tour to Granada and the Alhambra. We usually try to do shore excursions independently but it was not feasable in this case. The drive to and from Granada is not very interesting, although you are brought back a different route. Outbound we passed through miles & miles of plastic hot houses growing tomatoes for the whole of Europe, on the way back it was similarly barren land although more undulating. In these hills the Spanish film industry is the major employer (I think they must make Westerns)

The Alhambra was certainly worth the drive. The architecture in this 14th century fortress is amazing. It has a feeling of modern style with its symmetry. The gardens are very nicely organised too.

Although expensive this was the way to go.

As the other posters have stated it is worth a trip to Granda and the Palace, and you should do the ships tour for this one not a private driver/guide.I have not done this trip re a cruise, but from the Costa del Sol,and the drive isn't that bad,but you can relax on the bus,and look at the olive groves as you wind up the hills...enjoy.
