Pre-Cruise, stay in FLL or MIA?

I'm going on the Carnival Imagination on Thurs. 2/7 out of Miami.... We're flying into FLL the night before (we're scheduled to arrive at 6:30PM). We are planning on taking a cab from FLL to MIA. My question, should we look for a hotel in Downtown MIA or should we stay in FLL and take the cab ride in the morning? Any suggestions or experiences?

Thanks!!!

We are landing in FLL the day before our cruise in January, and have booked the Holiday Inn, Port of Miami for our pre-cruise.

It will be my first time staying there, but it's right at the Port, and had Bayside Market across the street.

I prefer to have the long ride done and over with the day before, (from what I've heard it can be anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour - depending on the time/day), and just look forward to boarding the ship the day of.

Have a great cruise!

Kim.
