freddiebud Posted October 2, 2007 #1 Share Posted October 2, 2007 I was reading in one of those travel books that some cruise lines provide binoculars for their Alaskan cruise guests to use. Does anyone know if the Mariner has binocs?
Breezes06 Posted October 3, 2007 #2 Share Posted October 3, 2007 I'm wondering the same thing. Regent cruisers, can anyone answer this question?
englishlee Posted October 3, 2007 #3 Share Posted October 3, 2007 Just got off the Mariner and if they did provide them we didn't find them! Pity as we forgot ours, but we saw in excess of 200 whales in a three hour period - the bino's would have been useful then.
Margate Cruiser Posted October 3, 2007 #4 Share Posted October 3, 2007 They make a binocular that has a gyro that keeps everything steady. Has two batteries. Last year the Capt. on another cruise line saw me use them and asked if he have a try. I said yes. He proceeded to let me have his and said I can pick mine up at the end of the cruise. 60 days later. We became good friends.
egret Posted October 3, 2007 #5 Share Posted October 3, 2007 I always travel with binoculars so I don't recall whether they were available on the Mariner last May. The excusions to Tracy Arm and the whale watching and otter watching had binoculars for every seat.
Ragnar Danneskjold Posted October 4, 2007 #6 Share Posted October 4, 2007 We brought a lightweight spotting scope (Leupold) and a lightweight tripod on a Mariner Eastern Caribbean cruise. Used it a fair amount. At 40x magnification it was good for spying on the rich and famous on their yachts :D
freddiebud Posted October 4, 2007 Author #7 Share Posted October 4, 2007 thanks for the answers. we have a few pairs of binoculars, okay, not great. we are deciding whether to invest or not. note to Ragnar Danneskjold - we bring them on all cruises to check out what's going on with other ships at port! :)
