How do you tell what rooms are left?

Seen many posts about on the carnival website you can see what rooms are "left" available. What exactly am I looking for?

The only way I have seen mentioned is to pretend to book and see which cabins it allows you to choose, but this is not a very reliable method b/c it will never offer ALL available cabins to you. It just selects a handful and lets you chose from those.
There isnt really a way to find out how full your ship is (unless its sold out) or which particular cabins are available, sorry!
