My DH and I are thinking about doing the Disney Wonder the week of Dec 16 (4 day cruise) and although I understand that there are kids on a disney ship (We did the Disney Magic and loved it -- after the first day of the chaotic children everywhere LOL) We just did not know if it would be overrun that close to christmas.

Also, we are thinking about doing the Guarantee - catagory 12 - will we regret that ??

I'm thinking that a lot of schools might be getting out around that time for Xmas break.

DH and I have realized something after six years of consecutive WDW trips in September. There aren't as many children as say, June, but almost all of the children that ARE there are toddlers/babies. Not a lot of school aged/young teens around. Mostly younger children and occasionally a school-aged sibling.

I'm thinking ---yeah probably a lot of kids. Christmas at WDW is the busiest time of the year. It's crazy! Also, I checked that date and considered doing that very trip because A. it was cheap and B. it's christmas time. (I have 6 kids). I am sure other families are thinking the same. January might be a better time for you.

Thank you very much for the info!!! We can not decide what we should do, it was between the carnival Miracle (which we have ruled out due to some problems with carnival), disney wonder or Caribbean princess. so who knows !!!

We were on the Car. Princess. The childrens activities can not compare to Disney. ( the kids did not enjoy the kids clubs like Disneys either.) Also the kids clubs are not open all the time on Princess. (they close for meal times.) On Disney, they are open at 9am - midnight and there is no extra charge past 10.

There is a lot more to do on Disney. ( Princess has the casino).

I would pick Disney hands down. Also what other cruise line has fireworks and a such a simple debarkation.

Disney averages about 1000 kids per cruise (this is 1/3 of pax). This is a bit higher during hols, and a bit less during school time.

Dont let it put you off - most guests dont notice a diferance between high levels of kids and low levels.

We did an actual Christmas (Dec 25th) cruise in 2005 and the ship was not overrun with children. I would imagine that the following week our ship would have been packed.

I also think that Dec 16th would be less crowded (with kids) because people are preparing for Christmas and many are still in school. Come to think of it, we are boarding our cruise on Dec 16th on the Celebrity Millennium! I need to post over there!!!

I would not be happy with a Cat 12, but that is me. Book what you can afford and don't count on an upgrade.;)

I was told that there a quite a few adult only areas on the ships though...I am planning to book the 13th 3 day cruise. How do those areas rate?
Very well. We are just 2 adults and enjoy the DCL very much. There are plenty of places to escape the kiddos (Palo, Cove Cafe, adult only beach and pool).

We've cruised as late as Dec. 12th, and didn't notice a huge number of kids. We're just two adults, and we really enjoyed the adult-only areas of the ship and Castaway Cay. In fact, except at meals, we rarely saw many kids at all. We always have late dining, so there are even fewer kids.

i wouldn't be super concerned with the little children as the pre-teens to teens i went on one cruise around this time and that's what gave us the issue not the little children the pre-teens and there insubordinates and how rude and the fact that they can just run around. The little kids do run around and scream but the pre-teens are the ones that create alot of problems. some are amazing others are not.( if you have a problem with children i suggest you try Cunard they have very very little amount of children no a Disney Cruise)

well sometimes parents will take there kids out of school to travel before it gets to expensive. and some Canadian schools in like Alberta are done around that time. and colleges are done at that time so if they have older siblings their parents might take them out of school so they all can travel together so it all depends......no worries there is a lot to do for adults they have places for only them which is good:)
