Do Guarantee on Feb. 7th Ectasy Cruise?

I had written a long thread on the above question and found that it had been "Moved" and I can no longer view it. So, I'll ask again and just be more condensed this time.

 

We're looking at doing the Ectasy Galveston cruise on Feb. 7th. Prices are quite good with about $450 for a 6A cabin or $480 for a 6B cabin. My question is whether we should just book a specific 6B cabin or try a guarantee on the 6A - I really wouldn't mind a 6A. The only categories on the Ectasy are 6A-D and then Cat. 11-12 suites. So while I don't think I'd be getting a Cat. 11 or 12, I might be higher up in the ship.

 

What are others' experiences with guarantees and upgrades? I know the ONLY time I was ever upgraded on 8 cruises was when I did a Cat. 8 guarantee on Celebrity (lowest outside) and was upgraded to a Cat. 4 (highest non-balcony outside). That was nice.
