I have one of those coke bottle banks - close to 3 foot tall - like you can get at Spencer Gifts at the mall. I finally filled it up - took a couple of years I think - maybe longer. I took the time to seperate the change and took the pennies to the supermarket to redeem in one of those machines. In pennies I had a little over $40. The silver coins I took to the casino and let them count them. Had $700 in quarters. In total it was just over $1000. The bank is now about 20% full working on another $1000.... LOL.

As for saving change goes, we too have been doing it, in just 4 months we saved up 182 bucks in change. Here is another idea, every pay period we put in 10 bucks, that addes up too 500 bucks a year! on top of saving change for a year it adds up to around $1200.00 bucks for the next cruise! Trust me it works

AFter reading this yesterday I went thru the house collecting change from cups, jars, dressers and of course our bucket full and we went and purchased rolls and plastic counters and ended up with $160 in quarters!! Have rolled only $6 worth pf pennies so far, but with dimes and nickles and the misc loonies and Susan Bs we are well over $270!! It cost $9 for the rollers and $4 for the rolls...cant beat that..no bank fees !!!!!

 

Nice to know we have this extra $$$$ for our trip...plan to get $300 in travelers checks to add to the ones we already have !! NICE:D

I've been doing it for about 10 years now, and it's a great way to save up for those "extras" on the cruises. I have a little jar marked "Cruise Fund" on my desk at work, and it fills up pretty fast -- just deposited $49.50 last saturday -- hopefully, that will pay for one of my excursions on my next cruise in November!

FYI: Commerce Bank (at least in our area) has coin counters in the lobby. There is NO CHARGE and you don't have to have an account with them. You dump the change, it counts it and spits out a receipt for you take to the counter for cash. VERY COOL and the kids love it!!

Whoo hoo i just counted my change and I have a bit over $40 i just stated saving my change and i just had to count it and low and behold I have over $40 ...Whoo hoo so it really DOES add up!

 

DW and I are up to $143.00 in change and still saving. Every little bit helps.

They definitely will take a chunk of your change. Commerce Bank has the penny arcade machines, which you can use even if you don't have an account! FOR FREE!

:) You know it! We've always saved change for vacations, so far we have close to 300.00 & still have alittle under a year to go, Whoo Hooo, the goodies that will buy......:)
