Hello has anyone booked with Roberts tours for the Maui Luau and what was your experience. We will be docked in Kahului on Wed 30th January and would like to book a Luau which includes transport from the dock - any suggestions.

Thank you

Been to Maui many times, not sure what Luaus are available to you, but if you can get either the 'Royal Lahaina Resort Luau' or 'The Old Lahaina Luau', you would be more than entertained, most others that I have seen just don't come close, Alos highly recommend going to the top of Haleakala volcano and snorkelling at Molokini.

I haven't been but here is what I've been able to find out so far:

My concern for a Maui luau was transportation to and from the ship which will be docked on a Monday night at Kahului in the north. There is limited parking by the dock which fills up by 8-9pm. I emailed Roberts and the reply said they usually go to Wailea Marriott Luau ( on the south east coast accross from Molokini on the map) and pick up at the dock is 4pm. Here is what a Maui Luau Guide says about it: http://www.mauihawaiiluau.com/outriggerluau.html

But other web sites say it runs only on Mon, Thurs, Fri, Sat. Best bet is to call or email Roberts and ask where they go to on the night that your ship will be there and what time the dock pick up is.

So far I have found only 1 other option that provides transportation:

Here is a privious post on this luau: Everyone in our group of 11 thought The Pale Kai Luau was very good. Check in starts at 4:30. We took a cab that cost around 7 dollars. The lady at check in said they would have provided transportation but we did not know this. We did not book ours thru the hotel so maybe that is why. They start the Luau outside with a group picture. While you are outside games are demostrated. The mc is very good. He is very funny and interacts with the crowd quite a bit. He breaks a coconut by hand with some help from the crowd. He also climbs a coconut tree. While they do not have a imu, they show what one is like. They serve Mai-Tais and punch. Hula demonstrations with some of the people from the crowd are also done. The whole time that you are outside you can see the ship in the background which was pretty neat. At 6:00 there is the call to dinner which is inside the hotel. Dinner is a Hawaiian buffet that includes fish, chicken, pork and beef. Vegatables were also served along with a salad bar and pokey and a open bar. At 6:45 was the Tahu Productions' Show. Plenty of music and dancing from the different islands around Hawaii. At 7:45 We were escorted outside by a torch-led procession, where there were 4 fire dancers. Around 8:15 it was over and we were given free transpotation back to the ship. Another thing we liked was the size of the crowd. There may have been 125 people instead of 300 to 500.

MAUI BEACH HOTEL Kahului, 877-0051, called Pale Kai Luau. It is near the harbor in Kahului. The price is $69.50 for adults and children 11 and under are free (one with every adult purchase). It was 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

One other option I am concidering: http://www.mauihawaiiluau.com/waikapuvillageluau.html

The Waikapu Village Village Luau was about a 15 minute/$25 taxi ride from the pier at Kahului. We parked the rental car early and avoided the late night struggle for spaces in the small parking lot. Didn't need to worry about having one too many Mai Tais either. It is held at the Maui Tropical Plantation on Hwy 30 about 1/3 of a mile south of the intersection on Hwy 30 and Wiaku Rd (305) I don't think that they have this Luau every night of the week so check availabilty with your cruise itinerary.

But that one isn't on the beach.

Discounters such as http://www.tombarefoot.com/ can really save you some cash. Surf the net a while, it will pay off.

Wow so much information thanks. I rang Roberts and the tour is Maui Sunset Luau at the Maui Prince Hotel and price includes transport ($83pp) so we have 2 choices either Pale Kai Luau $69.50pp or Sunset Luau - decisions decisions! Thanks again for all your help these boards are wonderful what would we do without them.:)

We are sailing RCCL ROS in May. We found this Luau through the recommendation of other Cruise Critic members that have done this Luau. We did book this luau; sounds fun. Here is the site. www.oldlahainaluau.com

Happy sailing, I can't wait until May.

OLL is a great luau and is quite convenient for those on ships tendered at Lahaina. It's only about 1-1/2 miles from the tender pier. The distance is walkable, although it's not my favorite or most scenic walk. We would not walk back after dark because it's a busy road with many sections that are not lighted. IMO, it's just not safe at night. A taxi ride would only be a few $$. You can also take the shuttle from Wharf Cinema Center (across Front St. from the tender pier) to Lahaina Cannery Mall (OLL is basically across the street from the mall; you'd walk around the back of the mall toward the water, cross Front St., and you're pretty much right there). The last shuttle from LCM to WCC is not usually late enough to catch it after the luau--and you don't want to have to leave the luau early just to save a couple of $$ on the shuttle versus a quick taxi ride.

All that said, NEWCRUISER176 is on a ship that docks in Kahului, which is almost an hour's drive one-way to Lahaina. As well, NEWCRUISER176 is looking for a luau that includes transportation. OLL doesn't send shuttles and doesn't include transportation. However, some of the various third-party tour companies offer luau trips that include transportation (and are thus, usually more expensive than just booking the luau). The question is which luau a particular tour company books with. That I do not know.
