memphislonghorn Posted January 20, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2008 Quick question that I never thought of until now. With the ports of Cozumel and Calica being so close together (looks like 15-20 miles on a map), why is the stop at Coz so short? It can't take the ship but an hour or two if that long to make the trip.....so why do we hafta get back on ship at 5:00? Seems like they would give us til midnight or something. Those in the know please fill me in.
Cruzman Posted January 20, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 20, 2008 Simple Economics! As long as the ship is in port, they cannot open the casino or the on board shops. As soon as they sail, they will open up immediately which creates revenue for the cruise line. You ask what the ship is doing all night? She is sailing in circles at idle speed. It is 12 miles from Coz to Calica.
jetskier Posted January 20, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 20, 2008 Very true about wanting the revenues. It was like a race track out there one night with three ships going in a large circle. It also has to do with charges from the port. If the ship is late in leaving, they can be charged for it. Dave
