Help with rain forest ? and what to do from 7am-1pm

We are on the Explorer and will be in San Juan from 7am-1pm. I was there once before and did the fort and OSJ. We are not big shoppers, so we don't really want to walk around San Juan again.

I was looking at a tour with RCI? It states a 25 minute walk. If anyone has done the tour through RCI, was this on flat ground or up hills? I'm wondering if my 70 yo mother could do it? Was it worth it?

If we don't do the rain forest tour is there a beach we could go to for the day? There's no tours listed going to the beach through the ship. How and what would be the transportation costs to do this on our own?

I've read the rum factories are not worth going to.

My mother can walk she is in fairly good health. She just can't walk far, fast or up hill.

Any tips for us is much appreciated, thanks

you might want to try the casino at the Ambassador Plaza in Condado, it is a crowded favorite hang out of the 'golden girls and boys''. another option is getting a day pass at some hotel like La Concha or Mariott Stelaris in Condado also or just taking a cab and rent some beach chairs behind the intercontinental hotel in isla verde.

taxi is a fixed rate to Condado or Isla Verde , around 20$ each way.

I haven't done the tour, but I have seen it being done many times.

They take a relatively flat tour, with many stops, but the guides seem to rush people through it. There are some steps at the beginning (about 20 or so) and a few at the end.

It is a really basic trail right at the edge of the road. You do pass a waterfall and a look-out tower (I don't know if they stop at them ).

Your Mom may be able to do it if you get a decent guide. Is it worth it.....

depends on the price.

You could get a private tour company to take you around to the rainforest and on a nice driving tour of the beach areas. This way you can change the plan if your Mom can't walk the trail.

There is a Duck tour which will take you around SJ and then into the water- it leaves at 11am,just one block away from Pier 4. It may be cutting your time short since you usually have to be back on the ship 1/2 hr before departure.

Beaches- I agree- probably got to the beaches by Intercontinental. Easy and nice, amenities available from the hotel (food, drink,) and local vendors- chairs, umbrellas.
