bambam Posted April 19, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 19, 2004 Marilynbn has a need to know: How long "should" it take to do the Pearl Harbor tour if her group gets there by 7:30am?? Also, which is better for doing the circle island (H2 up to 83 to H3) or (H3 to 83 to H2 and down)?? Marilyn asked about the position of the sun while driving/sightseeing - something I didn't experience (I was too close to buses... lol). Mahalo!! spleen93 Posted April 20, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 20, 2004 Posted on the original thread for this ... but I recommend clockwise. H2 up to Haleiwa and then down east/south from there. Makes more sense I think - plus it allows for lunch in Haleiwa which is very worthwhile. The sun has never bothered me driving this but don't exactly recall its position ... Pearl Harbor will depend on what you do there. Assuming that you do JUST the Arizona and you get there early enough to take one of the early boats across, you could be done with PH in about 1-1/2 to 2 hours. If you do the Bowfin, the Missouri as well ... you could be here the greater part of a day. tinkerme1 Posted April 20, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 20, 2004 Hi Spleen! Stopping in to say hi! The Arizona Memorial will take at least 1 l/2 to 2 hours if you get there at 7:30 AM. But, there are many museums on the grounds prior to/after your trip to the Arizona. The museums are free for the Arizona and very well done. I would not, however, stop your sightseeing at this point. I would also recommend the audio tour of the Bowfin Sub which is directly next to the grounds of the Arizona launch grounds. It is a fabulous tour and gives you some incredible information. After the Bowfin, you may want to check out the USS Missouri which is a short bus ride from the Bowfin area. The Missouri is a "work in progress" with restoration continuing all the time. It is extremely interesting to see the marker on the ship where the Japanese surrender was signed. If you do all three, it should take almost five hours, but well worth your time. This was in many ways, the highlight of our trip to Oahu! Hope you have a great cruise. 10X Posted April 20, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 20, 2004 We just did the Arizona, Bowfin, Missouri and Punch Bowl Cemetary in January. We arrived at Pearl Harbor at about 7:30 a.m. After the Arizona we did a short walk through of the Bowfin, then did the Explorer tour on the Missouri. We hung around and walked the Missouri on our own for a while, then drove to the Punch Bowl. We had to leave the Punch Bowl because it was closing, not because we were done there. This was about 5:30 p.m. So we could have used more than the 10 hours that we spent there.
