Kusadasi - Sites other than Ephesus

We have already been to and done Ephesus, does anyone have anything else they would recommend to do while in Kusadsi??

I toured these last year. The Temple of Artemis is one of the 7 wonders of the world. Also Mary's House was interesting.

If you are looking for something other than ruins, I've heard that visiting the village of Sirince is a pleasant day trip. Sirince is a typical Turkish village (originally a Greek village).

 

If you're interested in other ruins and have a full day in port, you might be interested in the sites of Miletus (Roman amphitheatre) and Didyma (temple of Apollo), which can both be done in a day from Kusadasi.

First we drove through beautiful countryside and olive groves to the small hill village of Sirince. We explored the village, shopped, and tasted the wonderful local wines and olive oil.

 

Then we visited the Temple of Artemis. This is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, but nothing is left but a few rocks and the remains of one column. Nevertheless, it is one of the old places of power, and may say something to you if you visit.

 

Then we went carpet shopping. We saw how the silk cocoons are unwound and turned into raw silk, then we saw the girls weaving (actually knotting) the carpets in the intricate patterns. Then the serious shopping began and it was great fun to bargain for a carpet!

 

Finally, the ultimate Turkish experience -- The Ada Saray Hamami, a true Turkish bath!! Now, this is an experience you only want to have with your closest friends, or with people you will NEVER see again! But it is something to say you have done, and it leaves you marvelously relaxed and calm!
