santaharry Posted February 17, 2008 #1 Share Posted February 17, 2008 we are thaking the MS Amsterdam out of Seattle on 5/30/2008 and plan to rent a car immediately after the cruise to tour Washington State. What rental cars are near the pier that HAL uses and have you had any problems? we will be returning it to the airport. Thanks in advance.
kaycee711 Posted February 17, 2008 #2 Share Posted February 17, 2008 We're going to rent from Thrifty for a few days before our cruise in early May and we're getting a great rate. It even went down and I rebooked for less. $34/day for a minivan! They have locations at Pier 30,48 and 66. Does HAL use one of these? We have had good service, no problems, we always rent from them. mp006 Posted February 18, 2008 #3 Share Posted February 18, 2008 We are also using Thrifty rental car-they have a location at Pier 48, with no extra drop-off charges to the airport. Our daily rate for a "wild-car" (at least mid-size) was very reasonable. They also advertise a free shuttle that drops you off at whichever Pier your cruiseship is departing from (including Pier 30, which HAL uses). Since you are picking the car up after your cruise, they also have a shuttle that picks you up at Pier 30, and takes you to Pier 48 to get your rental car. The information can be obtained at their website.
Rare roseoftx Posted February 18, 2008 #4 Share Posted February 18, 2008 We used thirfty last year both before and after the cruise. The rates were reasonable and they do have a shuttle that runs from the terminal. We went on NCL which uses the other terminal, but they shuttle to both (the piers are some distance apart). The trip from the ship to the lot was a bit hectic because it was raining (lightly) and everyone had a lot of bags so it was pretty full. The other options are tour companies that aren't at the pier and you have to take a taxi to them, which is certainly less convenient. When we went they were "off airport" at Seatac so allow a few extra minutes to take the shuttle from the lot to your gate.
Budget Queen Posted February 18, 2008 #5 Share Posted February 18, 2008 I too have rented from Thrifty, and their shuttles serve all cruiseship docks. As already mentioned, the drop off is not at the Airport, but on International Drive. And you shuttle to the airport. Last year, construction was significant with it taking at least 20 minutes for my drop off. Wall to wall stopped traffic. :) So do plan on an earlier drop off if reports this year continue with airport construction.
