Sunset Beach Resort

The following is the response I got from the Sunset Jamaica:

The cruise shippers day pass is for US $55 per adult. To get a taxi back to the peir will be no problem because we have taxi assigned to work with the hotel. It is required that you contact us two days before arrival so that we will have a better idea of what the occupancy would be and availability.

We will be in Jamaica the first week of April. I was disappointed that I did not get a confirmation from them for that date. I hate not knowing about availability until two day prior to our visit. It makes planning very difficult.

Has anyone else had this problem?

We were there in November and they have a lot of construction going on. The walk in was on a rough road, sometimes muddy, too. There is sidewalks from the pool area to the eating area, but not to the beach UNLESS, they have completed some more construction?? We walked through muddy grass from the beach to get back to a sidewalk and it was not too close either.

This is in Montego Bay, and it was $40 per adult for the all inclusive pass.

$20 for kids.

We were just there last week. They are still doing construction, but it's easy to navigate and they do have paved/cement walkways.

We took a van (there were 10 of us) from the cruise pier to Sunset Beach. It was $3/pp for the 5min ride. The driver pulls up to a gated entrance to a resort hotel (Sunset Beach resort, I presume). You tell the guards at the security office next to the gates that you want a day pass. (First we had to wait for them to stop arguing. :) Actually...we couldn't tell if they were arguing or that's just their style. The were EXCEEDINGLY polite to us, as was everyone at the resort, so don't be put off if they don't greet you right away).

A guard will escort you from the gate to the reception desk. Once inside the lobby area, they charge $40/pp for adults and $20/pp for kids (I think it's for 2yrs-12yrs). We paid in cash in USD. They attach a pink bracelet for the day pass, you surrender your sail and sign cards (which you'll later retrieve from the guard station near the front gate).

Some of our party got towel vouchers and others didn't. Make sure to ask for towel vouchers when you get your day-pass bracelet and you won't have to use your cruise ship towels. When you turn in your towels, get the vouchers back, else you'll be charged $15/per towel.

The restaurant/buffet area opened at 10 or 1030am and the grill behind the lobby opens at noon-ish.

There are 2 ways to get to the pools: via the beach or via the tennis courts.

They will direct you to walk thru the lobby to the beach. You'll pass the restaurant/buffet. Go around some construction/corrugated walls and you'll see more beach and beach toys (boats, kayaks, etc) in front of you, the grill is on your right, with tennis courts and the kids area/slides/lazy river pools behind that.

If you want to avoid the sand, I recommend you walk out of the lobby the same entrance you came thru and take a left. You'll head toward the tennis courts, kids pool area and the adults pool. All of this area is paved cement/tile.

Upon re-reading my directions, it might be a bit hazy. In an effort to clarify things I offer a baseball field visual: Home plate is the guard station, the pitchers mound is the lobby, First base is the tennis courts, 2nd base is kids pool/slide area, shortstop is the adults pool and the beach (where you'll encounter sand and non-paved walkways) is 3rd base, left and center field.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the helpful information. I just have one more question the slides are they for children or for adults....

The slides are for young and old alike, but sometimes I would get stuck going down and I am only 110 lbs. I had to push myself. If you lean back it seemed to help. They are pretty long and fun! :)

There are 2 slides as I recall, and you have to climb a lot of stairs to get to them. One slide is completely open on the top and the other is covered in parts. I'd be too clausterphobic in that one. The slides are fine if you don't mind the water going over your head at the bottom of the slide. You come out into about 4feet of water, which scared the bits out of my DS since he's not a very strong swimmer. He reached the side before I could get to him, but then promptly declared that he was done with the slide. :)

Checkout my webshots link - there's a pic of him standing at the top of the slide in Sunset Beach as well as some other SB pics.
