The "Atlanta Journal Constitution" link says he was travelling under an alias.

What I'm really curious about, was the ship really in US waters at the time, or did it re-enter or stay in US waters at the request of the police?

It always seem to me the ships beeline straight into international waters so they can open the casino quickly.

It just makes you wonder even more about the security on cruise ships. last year we took a cruise and a fight broke out during the night's entertainment (a drunken passenger spilled his drink on a female passengers formal attire and the husband was anything but pleased). Passengers ran to get crew members, who were much smaller than the disorderly passenger and just stood there watching the fight once they got there.

After about 5 minutes the captain had to come to break it up. This was my first time in cruising history to witness this and really wondered about security on cruise ships.

Doesn't the captain have more important things to do? Shouldn't some form of security be aboard for such purposes. What if they didn't stop the cruise before it got too far... scary

1. If I Read The Story Correctly, It Seems The Police Were Always One Step Behind. Obviously, The "STEP" Does Not Define The Time. Thats Probably Why They "missed" Him At The Port.

2. As Far As Homeland Security, U. S. Customs And Border Patrol Agencies Do Not Routinely Verify People Leaving The Country. Their Mission Is To Protect Against People Coming Into The Country. If They Were Not Advised To Look For Somebody Specifically, Who Was Leaving The Country, They Would Not Do So.

No One To Blame. Thats Just The Way The Scenario May Have Unfolded.

Thankyou,

I am a CBP agent and get a little tired of all these Monday Morning CBP Agents attempting to tell us how we should have done our jobs. Most passengers have no clue as how the system works. You are correct, most of our efforts go into checking who and what comes into the country. We have the ability with APIS to check for outstanding warrants, however, the list is only required to be given to CBP an hour before departure. Not enough time to conduct NCIC on every passenger. Not to mention he was traveling under an alias and fake documents. If we had known sooner we would have had this guy in cuffs before the ship left the dock.

Regards,

The U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port, Jacksonville directed the ship to stop. This is the only person that has the authority to stop a ship.

He stopped at their request before entering international waters.

Shocking!

The cruise line did what is was supposed to do with the passenger manifest. My question is why wasn't he arrested prior to boarding the ship? Authorities should have been waiting for him when he checked in to board the ship since they clearly knew he was going to be on the ship.

Doesn't make me feel any more secure!:(

Quit believing everything you see on TV. This guy traveled with false ID and an alias. No matter what they did with the list, there was no way for the authorities to tell this guy had a warrant. The bottom line is the cruise line let him aboard with false documentation.

Please don't make negative comments about systems you are unfamiliar with.
