Tips on European cruises

I always go to the bank before I leave home and get plenty of change so that I have the proper change for tips. My question is: we are cruising in May to the Med and it just occured to me that I probably need to tip in Euros but I am not sure because the ship's money is US dollars but the people who receive tips probably spend them in Euros. Anyone had any experience in this? Thanks for the help.
