Today there was the presentation ceremony of the “Ventura”, the largest passenger ship ever built for the British market, the new flagship of P&O Cruises (Carnival Group) and the largest cruise ship built to date by Fincantieri. This is the twenty fourth cruise ship constructed by Monfalcone shipyard which in these very days is celebrating its centenary from its foundation.

Present at the ceremony were the company’s Chairman and CEO Micky Arison, DD Managing Director of P&O Cruises and Carnival UK and Fincantieri was represented by the company’s Chairman, Corrado Antonini, and Chief Executive Officer, Giuseppe Bono.

The “Ventura”, alongside three vessels built between 2004 and 2007 for Princess Cruises (also in Carnival Group) with the114,000-tonne, 290-metre-long ship has a maximum passenger capacity of 4,850 (3,592 guests and 1,258 crew).

The ship is provided with every comfort and passengers can choose from a wide range of entertainment, including swimming pools, shops, wellness centres and libraries. There will be on board a collection of works of art from Tate Modern, the prestigious museum of contemporary art in London. A further innovative feature is the discotheque on deck 17, where there is a video-wall made up of 20 plasma screens displaying continuous images.

Delivery of the “Ventura” further strengthens Fincantieri’s relations with P&O Cruises, a prestige brand, which boasts a history of 170 years and is characterized by high profile customers from the British market, one of the world’s most active and dynamic which in recent years has recorded interesting growth margins.

The two companies started working together three years ago when Fincantieri built, at Marghera yard, the 82.000-tonne “Arcadia”, the fleet’s previous flagship. In addition to the “Ventura” a sister ship is already in Fincantieri’s order book, also to be built at Monfalcone, for delivery in Spring 2010.

With Ventura Since 1990 Fincantieri has delivered 44 cruise ships, of which 41 for the six main brands in Carnival Group. Over the next three years a further 18 vessels are due to be built at the shipyards of Monfalcone, Marghera, Sestri Ponente and Ancona.
