bmweezer Posted April 23, 2008 #1 Share Posted April 23, 2008 We really wanted to go on Liberty of the Seas out of Miami next June (2009)for a 7-day cruise but upon checking prices, we noticed instantly that we can go out of New York on the Caribbean Princess and go on a 9-day cruise without a required flight. Since our last two cruises were aboard Freedom of the Seas and Crown Princess, the price difference (which is huge!!!) requires us to likely pick the Caribbean Princess despite our opinion that RCCL is slightly better than Princess. These fuel prices are certainly changing our cruise-making decisions like I've never seen. Nine days versus seven days and the longer cruise is cheaper. atb Posted April 23, 2008 #2 Share Posted April 23, 2008 Our October cruise requires flying. After that - no more  . We don't like flying anyway - and the changes make it more aggravating. Paying for extra bags - or for overweight, and then heading out for a long cruise. We are looking at any northeastern cruises. We plan to stick with Celebrity and RCCL. But if Princess is offering a better deal - what can we do -
ssantow Posted April 23, 2008 #3 Share Posted April 23, 2008 With airfares creeping higher and higher plus all the add ons for extra bags, overweight bags, etc I too am done flying to a cruise. The TA in November is our last flight only because you can't drive to Barcelona. The DW retires after that cruise and we will have the time to take lei surly drives to our cruises. It is to the point that you can fill the car with gas and stay at nice hotels overnight for less than you can fly. You might even be able to throw in a rental car so you don't pile the miles on your own.
fllady Posted April 23, 2008 #4 Share Posted April 23, 2008 We were die hard Celebrity/RCL fans, but we have fallen in love with Princess. Especially Caribbean Princess. It is one of the best cruises we have had. IMPO the food is much better on Princess that RCL and about is even with Celebrity now since the cutbacks. Unless you are going to eat in the specialty restaurants then its all about equal in quality and quantity. Go for the Caribbean Princess, you won't be sorry. We in Florida are sad to see her go to NY, so we are doing a 4 day cruise this weekend on her before she leaves us. :)
Cruising89143 Posted April 24, 2008 #5 Share Posted April 24, 2008 RCI gets top dollar for the Freedom class ships during peak times. It will be interesting to see what the Genesis does to the rates of the Freedom and Voyager class ships that are based in the Caribbean.
