Category VD on the Westerdam

Recommended Posts

I have been checking prices - the best price I am able to get for a balcony on the Westerdam is category VD - but instead of being able to select a specific cabin, I am only given the choice of a guarantee cabin. Anyone had a cabin in the VD category? If so, what was it like. Thanks in advance.

I love the VD category on Westerdam. Both times we sailed that ship we purposely booked VC cabins and asked not to be upgraded. The balconies on that deck are larger. The only advantage to an upgrade (assuming you aren't upgraded to a suite) would be a higher deck, but a smaller balcony. I would take the VD on deck 4 and ask not to be upgraded.

I don't think there are any "bad" VD cabins on Westerdam, and the extra balcony space is nice as well.

We did a VD guarantee on our Westerdam cruise and we did get a VD cabin, and in hindsight I'm glad we didn't get an "upgrade".

I have to agree with jerseygirl3 - I would take the VD guarantee and specify that you do not want an upgrade.

Happy Cruising :)

Are the balconys larger in the VD category?

Yes, they are. I made a typo when I said we've booked VC cabins the last two times we were on Westerdam. I meant to say VD. Anyway, you will love Westerdam and the VD cabins are the best of the verandah cabins to book because of the larger balconies. I would suggest you tell them you do not want an upgrade from a VD unless it's to a suite.

VD cabins on the Westerdam are wonderful. Most are aft but there are a handful that are more forward and midship. The UP deck does allow for a slightly deeper Veranda than any of the other decks
