Lava - Kona or Hilo

Hi -

 

We're in the process of planning our excursions. I was wondering which port was best location for going to see lava - Kona or Hilo?

There is no lava (except the old hardened kind which you can see on any Hawaiian island) in Kona. Volcano National Park is out of Hilo.

Volcano is pretty quiet rightnow, but who knows what it'll be doing when you get there. As spleen has said, Hilo is the closest to the park. It's a very long drive from Kona. There's a reason they call it the BIG Island. :D
