Diggerdon Posted May 14, 2008 #1 Share Posted May 14, 2008 We did a cruisetour in Alaska the first week of June the last time. This time we are thinking about doing the same trip but in the middle to end of July. What will be the difference as far as the wildlife we will see. We went to Deanli and Mt. Mcklinley and then did a southbound cruise to Vancouver. Thanks
gazingm42 Posted May 15, 2008 #2 Share Posted May 15, 2008 We have done both. They are basically about the same. We did notice there seem to be more ships and thus more visitors in July. It could have just been the track our ships was on that week.
Snorkel Mom Posted May 15, 2008 #3 Share Posted May 15, 2008 July is peak time to view the bears catching the salmon at places like the famous Brooks Falls, Redoubt Bay, Anan Creek, Pack Creek, Prince of Wales Island or Kodiak Island...just to name a few. These are pricey $$$ excursions but well worth it from what I've read and seen in pictures from past cruisers.I haven't taken one of these tours myself, but I want to....There are quite a few places offering these bear viewing tours. Ketchikan, Homer, and Anchorage are just a few places from which these tours fly. It is truly a once in a lifetime experience to be up so close to these beautiful bears and yet feel pretty safe....considering. There are limited permits so book as soon as possible if interested. Just Google "bear viewing in Alaska" and you should come up with some tours for your location.:D
Putterdude Posted May 15, 2008 #4 Share Posted May 15, 2008 You should have better weather in mid to late July.
