costa sol/costa blanca

I am considering going to either of these two places post cruise in July 2009. Has anyone done this? I would love any info on best way to get there from Barcelona, accomodations, and anything else which would be helpful.

I haven't been to Spain since 1970, so I know a lot has changed.

 

We used to spend long weekends in Torremilinos near Malaga, which is now called Costa del Sol. The beach had some small round rocks on it, maybe more than sand. I understand it has become very urbanized now, so even the beach may have changed. We loved going there way back when. ;)

 

It will be a very mountainous journey from Barcelona if you go by land. If you are planning on having a rental car while in Spain, the drive south could be quite nice and there are lots of interesting sites along the way.
