ALW2 Posted June 29, 2008 #1 Share Posted June 29, 2008 Hi! We are taking a mediterranean cruise with RCCL. Does anyone have any recommended tours for Florence/Pisa, Rome, Sicily and Naples? We aretrying to decide whether to take some with Royal Caribbean or use other tour companies. We are also interested in tours from Nice. Thanks! Rare JSR Posted June 29, 2008 #3 Share Posted June 29, 2008 We just returned from a b2b on the Navigator. We had some wonderful tour guides. We really loved being able to walk off the ship and join our guide and head off for a wonderful day in Rome, Florence and Villefranche. We did not waste time figuring things out and we got to see a lot. There were 7 of us 3 of whom were 12-14. It worked for us. For others it maybe easier to do it on your own. We used the following companies and drivers: Villefrance- Azur Connection. Our driver was Luic. He was wonderful. He knew the history of everywhere we went and also all the stars homes. We chose the itinerary but made changes along the way which Luic was happy to oblige. I would highly recommend them. http://www.azurconnection.com Florence- Fabrizio from All around Italy. Fabrizio will make you laugh until your sides hurt. He tooks around with great commentary. with him. http://www.allarounditaly.net Rome- We used Big Marco from Rome Cabs. Marco was great. Very knowledgeable. He kept us on schedule. We were able to see everything we wanted to plus a few hidden treasures. It was an amazing tour. http://www.romecabs.com Good luck with your decision. Have a great time.
MamaQuack Posted June 30, 2008 #4 Share Posted June 30, 2008 Not sure what RCCL offers in the way of excursions. We just returned from a June cruise on Regent. We used Romeinlimo in Rome and it was, by far, the best day of our trip. We loved the flexibility and comfort of travel in a nice Mercedes vehicle, seeing what we wanted to see, stopping when we wanted to stop, asking our questions and not receiving a rehearsed, lecture. The preplanning on the internet with Jany was simple and reassuring. She made it all so easy. Then our wonderful, warm, friendly and charming guide just made us feel like we were out with our next door neighbor. He was so interesting and so funny. We loved him instantly. There were just 3 of us. Yes, we could have tried to take the train and stumble around Rome, get lost and annoyed a lot and end up wondering why we did not go private. But, thanks to these boards we knew this was our best option for a stress free day. We were not wrong. We were very, very pleased. It was worth every Euro. We would and will do it again. And, instead of the organized ship's excursion that would have kept us 11 hours - Vince was able to show us everything we wanted to see, plus some more AND take us to a wonderful restaurant for real food and conversation - all in less than 8 hours. Our 17 year old son loved him and quickly dubbed it "speed touring with a pro". Professional this company is - all the way. Good luck. eileen226 Posted June 30, 2008 #5 Share Posted June 30, 2008 We used tourazur in Villafranche (very good), our tour guide was Claire Lise and Rome in Limo in Italy. We just returned and I will be writing a detailed review of this FABULOUS tour company. We are planning on returning next year for a land tour and will be hiring them again. Duman (the owner) and Jany his trusted assistant will answer any and all questions. They are well worth the money (equivalent with a group of five or moe) to the prices of an onboard tours. All three of our drivers (including Duman, in Rome) were so wonderful. I will be writing a review by tomorrow night of our experience with them (still a little jet lagged) Any questions though, I can answer.
MamaQuack Posted July 1, 2008 #6 Share Posted July 1, 2008 Our wonderful Vincente was sitting outside enjoying his smokes and greeting friends while we dined inside. At the end of our meal the man at the table next to us came over and introduced himself as Duman and presented us with limoncello. We had tried it the day before in Sorrento but it was too strong so we politely sipped this one. Mama Mia!!!!!! It was like liquid sunshine. We loved it. Anyway, just an example of how nice Duman is to come over and inquire about our comfort while he too was conducting a tour. We liked Romeinlimo so much we are sincerely looking now in to a land visit as opposed to a cruise next year so we can have more time with them.
