I always bring snacks, especially for longer flights (chips, trail mix, jerky ... whatever). I've also brought food from the concourse, such as Subway or Burger King, especially on trans-continental flights were no food is offered.

Yes, but please keep in mind that there are other people on board and if your food is aromatic, it may not be pleasant to them. Think of a food you don't like the smell of and imagine someone a few rows away from you munching. That smell tends to linger for a while after you are done eating too.
