marinersfan Posted October 22, 2004 #1 Share Posted October 22, 2004 With many airlines having trouble these days and filing bankruptcy, is Continental a safe choice?
bUU Posted October 22, 2004 #2 Share Posted October 22, 2004 Among the safest at this time. American is actually the safest, I think, having only lost $16 million last quarter.
MandyGirl Posted October 22, 2004 #3 Share Posted October 22, 2004 A colleague's husband flies for AA - well ... flew MD80 - and keeps hoping to get hired back one day (currently furloughed). Of course he's only 35 so he has about 25 years until forced retirement at age 60. AMR (parent company of American) didn't do too well this quarter (loss of $214 million) http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/041020/daw026_1.html but another local-based airline did better http://www.marketwatch.com/news/yhoo/story.asp?source=blq/yhoo&siteid=yhoo&dist=yhoo&guid=%7B53970CF3%2D02BF%2D4F7A%2DA805%2D0B2BD741B91B%7D Continental posted a loss but not as bad as other airlines http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/041019/datu029_1.html
marinersfan Posted October 22, 2004 Author #4 Share Posted October 22, 2004 Okay, now I am thinking I should wait for Southwest to post its fares for end of March/beginning of April. Since this is during Spring break would it be a risk to wait for Southwest (I think it will be Nov or Dec before they release fares)? I would appreciate any suggestions! Thank you, Evonne
MandyGirl Posted October 22, 2004 #5 Share Posted October 22, 2004 Evonne - I'd check their website daily. Flights are only available through April 1 right now and Spring Break can vary from school district to school district (mine is mid March).
