Sophiesmom2 Posted August 15, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2008 Well, it looks like the tropics are "heating up" again and a storm MAY go into the Eastern Carribean next week. Bad news for the passengers booked on the Eastern routes. I've never sailed when a storm is approaching. (Have been chased back into PC or Fort Lauderdale by a couple at the end of the cruise.) Does RCCL authomatically change the itinerary to the West or try to go around? Just wondering.... Keeping my fingers crossed it'll all just blow itself out!;)
Javalava Posted August 15, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 15, 2008 This afternoon's weather is saying that it will still be several days before they will know what this "disturbance" is going to do. The latest models show one path going north off the east coast, Two going up the center of the state and one going into the Gulf. So basically they don't know yet. It could affect the eastern cruises, but there's a chance it could afftect the western instead. It's a matter of watch and wait.

It all depends on the predicted (and actual) path of the storm, how fast the ship sails, availability of docking spaces at the various ports etc. Best advice when cruising during hurricane season is to pack your seasick pills, a good attitude, and an extra dose of flexibility and trust that the Captain and the cruiseline will do everything they can to keep you safe and have a great vacation. If RCCL decides to change an itinerary in advance, they will post it on their website so keep an eye out.
jackdiamond Posted August 15, 2008 #4 Share Posted August 15, 2008 It will probably not be a hurricane for about 4 days; hence, if you are embarking from Lauderdale or Miami tomorrow you will be fine, although it may be a bit rocky. Just remember to pack your dramamine.
