Eurodam's Special Mariner Society Brunch - September 1,2008

We were invited to be guests onboard the Eurodam for Brunch and a tour of this new ship.

Our first impression as we walked toward the dining room, was that the decor was definitely more modern. One of the bar areas we passed along the way, was very "retro" looking. The chairs had metal straight backs and looked very uncomfortable. The Rembrandt dining room also seemed more modern and cold looking. After brunch we went to the Mainstage. We liked the leather seats and size of this large theater, however, it also seemed more modern and dark, than any of the other HAL ships we've cruised on. As we explored the Cabana area on deck 11, we felt it to be confining and isolating. We found the same feeling when we explored the pool areas on the Lido deck. The cabanas around the pool took up much of the deck space and gave a very closed in feeling. It also left a far smaller deck area for lounges for guests not chosing to spend $50 a day to reserve a cabana. The outside aft pool on Lido deck gave a more open feeling, but again the awning over the bar and table area, closed it in, and while providing shade, the gazebo-like decor did not feel breezy and open.

The Silk Den bar on Deck 11, had silk curtains between each seating area on a step-up platform and this took away space in this bar area, also closing it in and giving a feeling of isolation. There were some chairs and small tables near the windows overlooking the pool area below, and at least this seemed more like the traditional bar area, we prefer. Overall, this ship seemed more for honeymooners who want to be alone, than for seasoned cruisers. However, we have cruise credits with Holland America, and we will use them on other ships in the fleet. The Eurodam while we would cruise onboard would not be our first choice.
