Fort Lauderdale's Marriott North

My DW and I will be staying at the Marriott North, 6650 N. Andrews Ave. on 12/8/08 for a pre-cruise stay. Can anyone tell us if there is anything within walking distance of this hotel such as shopping or restaurants? I would appreciate any information.

There is a good size strip shopping center you can walk to. There are chain restaurants and a few local type stores, no major shopping. It is a fairly long walk and you will have to cross 6 lanes of traffic. The hotel is nice. It is about 20 minutes to the port. For more upscale restaurants and shopping you would have to use a car or cabs.
