Can you get free upgrades on a free booked cruise??

OK, I am booked for Oct on the Imagination on a free cruise I won last year on the Celebration. I did pay for an upgrade to a 6A and also paid to take a 3rd passenger so I did have to put out some $ out of my pocket so it wasn't exactly 100% free. I was just checking today and noticed that there is a free upgrade from a 6a to a 6D now for the same price that my cruise was booked at. My question is, do you think if I called Carnival I would be able to get the upgrade or do you think since this was a free cruise that they will not do it. I would love to be closer to the dining room, shows and lido deck. Any ideas??
