sunraiser Posted September 12, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 12, 2008 My husband and I are very active, and are interested in this route for cruising. Are there any hiking/walking trails in these destinations? We do not want to sit in bus tour!
SailBadtheSinner Posted September 13, 2008 #2 Share Posted September 13, 2008 If you are stopping at Bar Harbor, Maine, you must visit Acadia National Park. There are nunerous trails plus 57 miles of carriage roads which are hard packed roads free from motor vehicles. Here’s a link: http://www.acadiamagic.com/carriage-roads.htm Here’s a link for the hiking trails: http://www.acadiamagic.com/acadia-hiking-trails.html Depending on when you visit BH, there is a seasonal free bus service for BH & ANP which will take you to the start of the carriage roads or the trail heads: http://www.exploreacadia.com/ If you are stopping at Newport, Rhode Island, there are no “hiking trails”, but you could do Cliff Walk which is a public walk way between the mansions and the shoreline: http://www.cliffwalk.com/ Another walk to do would be to walk Bellevue Ave which is the street that most of the Newport mansions are on (except for the Breakers which is one block east of Bellevue). http://www.newportmansions.org/ You could also do the Newport Harbor walk: http://www.newportharborwalk.com/ In Boston, Mass, walk the Freedom Trail: http://www.thefreedomtrail.org/ SBtS
