Pool open before sail away?

1st cruise and wondering if the pools will be open prior to sailaway? I am sure we will find much to keep us occupied if not, but I would like to be prepared (suits in the carry-ons) if they are as I know my kids will be itching to swim. Thanks!

It's hard to say. My experience has been that sometimes the pools are open , sometimes not.

We have seen it both ways. Pools were open when we sailed on Carnival Legend from Ft. Lauderdale several years ago. We sail most often from Galveston in winter and pools have never been open. The pools are salt water. They are filled each morning with filtered sea water and emptied each evening. Perhaps this explains why some ports Carnival opens pools and others they do not.

Every cruise I have been on its been open...but I know its not always that way. On my last cruise in August the pool was open and even the slide....That was a shocker!

Thanks for the responses...we are out of Long Beach, CA on the Pride...if that makes a difference:)
