Scooter rentals on the islands

Does anyone have experience with scooter rentals on the islands? We are thinking specifically of St. Maarten and St. Thomas. DH isn't really keen on group tours.

I wouldn't rent a car on St.Thomas let alone a scooter. Like many islands, some of the drivers think they are nascar drivers. The roads are narrow with hairpin turns in some places. :eek:

Be sure your medi-vac insurance premiums are paid up. I know of one passenger who had a moped accident and had to be evacuated for medical help. The tab was almost $18,000.
