Has anyone boarded through Genoa port recently?

Has anyone boarded through Genoa recently on one of MSC's larger ships? Back in 2005, after check in, we then went up stairs to board the ship and on the way there was a Port Shop (may have been Duty Free?) which sold among other things cigarettes and spirits. We bought several things and were able to take them on board with no questions asked. Does this still happen? This cruise was on Melody which I assume was in the smaller berth. I am hoping to go on Fantasia which I assume would be in a larger berth so I have no idea if the set up is the same!:)
