teresapink Posted March 16, 2009 Author #7 Share Posted March 16, 2009 Katie- Thanks so much...I was more interested in the entertainment. At one time I think that had a Beatles music show on the Serenade. Was there anything like that when you sailed? My teenage daughter is a huge Beatles fan! Thanks again! Teresa :) ps: When are the formal nights?
Irish90Cruiser Posted March 16, 2009 #8 Share Posted March 16, 2009 Hi Teresa - We didn't have any Beatles stuff (we have family in Liverpool so we are huge fans too!) but here is the entertainment we had - Saturday - Welcome Aboard Show - (featuring the Royal Caribbean Singers and Dancers starring Juan & Eileen) - Los Diablos Gauchos We didn't see this one but from the cruise DVD it looked like this couple singing and dancing and I vaguely remember a hula hoop (maybe?) dinner was casual Sunday - Production Showtime - Stage to Screen - (starring the RC singers & dancers) - "a tribute to the great Broadway musicals that have also been hits on the silver screen, including West Side Story, Sweet Charity, Hairspray and Chicago" again, didn't see this one also had Battle of the Sexes game show $1,000 guaranteed royal bingo Texas Hold'em Poker tournament, round 1 singles get together at the vortex dinner was casual (but I think it was supposed to be formal this night and they changed it for some reason) Monday - Celebrity Showtime - the song and comedy of Judy Kolba - she was good Texas Hold'em tournament, round 2 Captain's welcome aboard reception Majority Rules game show 80s night at the vortex mix 'n' mingle (club 18-20) dinner was formal Tuesday - Love & Marriage Game Show - one show only at 10:45pm Wild West party, centrum bartender "flair" show Texas Hold'em, round 3 win-a-cruise bingo 70s music in the centrum disco hour of power in the vortex Teen dodgeball tournament (12-17 yo) dinner was smart casual Wednesday - Headliner - Jonathan Kane - Elton John impersonator - he was great 70s street party, centrum dancing under the stars party, poolside texas hold'em, round 4 teen only movie night, 12-17 yo dinner was casual/caribbean Thursday - Production showtime - Vibeology - "A journey through popular music from Elvis to Cher and Janet Jackson" - we only lasted about 15 minutes with this one - it was ok but we preferred the piano music in the schooner bar $500 guaranteed royal bingo Quest Texas Hold'em, rounds 5 & 6 Adult Karoake pool gathering (18 - 20 yo) dinner was formal Friday - Farewell showtime - Comedian Max Dolcelli - we didn't see him Belly flop contest Final day royal bingo Texas Hold'em, rounds 7 & 8, and final farewell pj party, vortex teen speed climbing competition on the rock wall (12-17 yo) mix 'n' mingle (18-20 yo) dinner was casual Oh, I miss it - I want to go on another one! Can you take me with you? Let me know if you have any more questions! Katie
teresapink Posted March 16, 2009 Author #9 Share Posted March 16, 2009 Katie- Yo're like us- we never like the shows either..that's why we were hoping for the Beatles! Schooner Bar seems like the place to be. Is there a Sports Bar anywhere on the ship, do you recall? T
Irish90Cruiser Posted March 16, 2009 #10 Share Posted March 16, 2009 There is a sports bar between the casino and the theater on deck 6. We walked through it a couple of times and it was always really smoky. It has an Indianapolis 500 theme with checkered flags and racing stuff. There are several TVs and maybe 20 tables plus the bar. Our favorite place to hang out was the Schooner bar. They had a piano player in there everynight and we just really liked it in there. The only part that disappointed us was the the piano player would take a break between 8 and 9 or 9 and 10 because at those times most people would be going to the shows. It seemed like there was a lull in the music right when we wanted to sit and have a drink (or two:rolleyes:). The Schooner bar is where they have all the trivia contests and name that tune contests too. We were on the Adventure last year and were shocked at how much smaller the Schooner bar is on that ship compared to the Serenade even though it is a bigger ship. On the Serenade we really never had a problem finding a seat.
gdpups Posted March 16, 2009 #11 Share Posted March 16, 2009 Can you tell me how the Texas Hold'm rounds work?? Do you just play one round, do you sign up for a certain round, do you continue until you lose?? My hubby loves Texas Hold'm but I'm trying to plan specialty dining and want to work around the game. It sounds like there is only one place to hang out on the Radiance Class ships at night...The Schooner Bar...We are so used to the Voyager Class and the Liberty with the Promenade , wine bar, English Pub etc...I think we might go mad just hanging at the Schooner Bar with the absent Piano Player...............agrh! BroncosFan2010 Posted March 17, 2009 #14 Share Posted March 17, 2009 I have the compass from the 2/28-3/07 Sailing. I can't get them to load, but I will be willing to answer any questions you might have. I love the Serenade! I wanted to point out that the Champagne Bar as well as the Centrium area seemed to be more full of people in the evening (with great live music) than the Schooner Bar. The Schooner Bar was nice to hang out, and we prefered to meet there, but that is just because our CC group seemed to congregate there.
Ckruz69 Posted March 17, 2009 #15 Share Posted March 17, 2009 We were on the February 14th sailing of the Seranade which featured the "Beatlemania" show, I believe it was the first formal night. We had our granddaughters with us ages 14 and 9, although they were familiar with some of the songs, we were the Beatles fans but they loved it as well - everyone was on their feet at the end. The guys showed clips of the real "Beatles" as part of the intermission where they changed costumes (and hairstyles!). Anyway we must have been lucky because they do not seem to have them on the ship every week - definitely a fabulous show and we felt so lucky to have seen them. Irish90Cruiser Posted March 17, 2009 #16 Share Posted March 17, 2009 There is also the Safari Club which had music and dancing on most nights. That is all the way at the aft - you have to walk through the Schooner Bar and past the pool tables to find it. That is a really nice bar too - we just didn't get there. We only made it up to the Vortex once but it was packed and a lot of fun - the dance floor was busy most of the time. The Hollywood Odyssey/cigar bar is on deck 13 next to the Vortex but we never made it in there. Mokaheena is right, there were a lot of people hanging out in the Centrum and the Champagne bar for the music there. We actually like the bar scene on Serenade better than the one we found on Adventure last year. The bars are bigger in size (which is weird, considering the ship is smaller) and I think there are probably just as many of them but they seem to be tucked away. In looking at the Compasses, every night there is a lull of 30 minutes to an hour where there is no music at all and this happens somewhere between 8 and 10. I think it has to do with trying to get people into the shows. But you really shouldn't feel like you will be wandering around with nothing to do. We never really had to wait longer than 15-30 minutes for some music to start up. You will have an amazing time!! :)

BroncosFan2010 Posted March 17, 2009 #19 Share Posted March 17, 2009 No Beatle Mania show on the 2/28 sailing. However, the two production shows were very good. I really enjoyed the Stage to Screen show. One of the Comedians was pretty good. We did not make it to Etta May. The rest of the shows were just---average. We did not to go to the Elton John impersonator, but we heard he was excellent.
