rednancy1 Posted January 15, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 15, 2009 I don't think there is any rhyme or reason to the residency discounts. It may be that they discount states nearest to the sailing port. Or not.
DON M. Posted January 15, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 15, 2009 I don't think there is any rhyme or reason to the residency discounts. It may be that they discount states nearest to the sailing port. Or not. Your right, I think they throw darts at a dartboard. Once I looked up a discount for my brother in Kansas. There was a discount for Mo. but not for Kansas, and 3 days later that discount was gone.
Clarea Posted January 15, 2009 #4 Share Posted January 15, 2009 Residency discounts, senior discounts, and military discounts may appear and disappear on a cruise from time to time. These discounts also vary by category of stateroom. You may find some categories with senior discount and others with residency discounts. The senior may go away and the residency might stay, etc. If you are interested in pricing a particular cruise, do a mock booking on Royal's website, being sure to answer the senior, military, and residency questions as they apply to you. The prices on the website will then reflect which (if any) of these discounts are applicable to that cruise.
The Big Booper Posted January 15, 2009 #5 Share Posted January 15, 2009 Sometimes the residency discounts make a lot of sense. On the Holiday sailing of Explorer leaving 12/21/08 there were a 100 unbooked cabins right after Thanksgiving. So RCI cut the price almost in half for a guaranty booking in several cabin categories, and they disappeared in 3 days. However you had to live in NY only, not NJ. The Ct. people got a smaller discount. At that late date, airfare for people living out of the area would be expensive on a last minute booking. The senior discount on the 11 night Grandeur late October repo from Balt to Tampa was available for weeks if you lived in Maryland. We wathed but were already booked a Liberty cruise early Oct so didn't book it. After getting back from our Liberty cruise the interior guarantee went down to $429 each. So we booked it. The next day the senior discount was back at $369 so we called and they put $120 back on our credit card. (Stockholder OBC and NC Certificate made it a sweet deal!) That was two days before sailing and the ship sailed full.
