What to do in La Romana

We just returned from our Grand cruise and our last stop was in La Romana. Since we had never been to the DR before, we booked a ships tour to Catalina Island. Island was nice, but water was very cool/cold. Not a lot there, mainly a beach day of just sitting around.

Some on our cruise took the shuttle into town, I was told it is $5 RT per person. They said it was interesting, but not a lot there. They were glad they went to have a look around, but probably wouldn't do it again.

At the actual port, there is a walkway that takes you up the hill to both the only shop at the port area and the shuttle buses.

This seems to be a new port stop and just added recently. Actually we would have much rather gone to Princess Cays.
