Just back from Enchantment 5 day

Recommended Posts

We went on the enchantment 5 day from ft. lauderdale to jamaica and ocho rios. There were 5 of us, 2 adults and 3 kids, 11, 14, and 14. There wasn't much to do for the 14 year olds, they hung around alot looking for stuff to do, TV's to watch or PS2 to play. THey got kicked out of the solarium pool and the other pool was crowded with kiddies. The casino had sports on the TV and when they went in there they got kicked out too. It was unfortunate that they were bored. The 11 year old did adventure ocean and she liked it alot, she was busy most of the time.

I thought the ship rocked alot the first 2 days, but I luckily did not get sick. I hated waiting in line for everything, waiting to get on the ship, waiting to get into the rooms, waiting for dinner, for lunch, waiting to get off and on the ship at ports. The pictures at all the ports, (but we just bypassed them). The cruise was nice and sunny, but if you've been on one cruise, you've been on 'em all. I sailed Royal 8 years ago and they had the horse racing and sexy legs competition at the pool. We had no problem getting a pool chair and met alot of nice people. I also did not like that they wanted you to buy everything, buy the royal carribean cookbook, buy a flower, buy a souvenior glass, buy the pictures!! It was just a bit much at times.

The ports were nice, we booked our excursions privately so we got to do the stingrays in grand cayman, the cruise line cancelled all the shore excursions in GC. I would encourage all to book privately. Jamaica Dunns Falls was awesome!! Go early in the morning to beat the crowds. Again just book it yourself, its the way to go!! Margaritaville in Jamaica was great too. The kids had fun there. Seven mile beach in GC was pretty. We just took a cab there after our stingray excursion and hung there for the day. GC is expensive though. Every time we came back from the ports we were very hungry, and in the windjammer it was taco dip and same stuff everyday!! even at sea it was tacos, we were so sick of taco's, it was our private joke when we got off. The food in the dining room was excellent!! Our waiter was great.

The entertainment was a little cheesy!! The Beatles show was fantastic!! but the other shows were corny, the stage effects were simple and the dancers outfits were tacky.

I am comparing it to Carnival Triumph, which was absolutely great. We went on the Triumph 2 years ago with kids and adults and everyone just had a great time, the shows were awesome and there was so much for all the kids to do. The cruise director was great on Carnival too.

I found that there was alot of smoking on this Ship. We had no where to go for a drink before or after dinner that was no smoking. On Carnival they had a beautiful Atrium bar with piano playing and it was nice to hang around there before dinner. I found that there was no such place to do that on Royal Carribean.

ALL in all we did have a nice vacation, but I don't think that I will cruise again for a while. Unless it is to Bermuda, which is my all time favorite place. Ft. lauderdale after the cruise for a couple of days was really nice and relaxing.

My daughter just got back this a.m. from her 4-night cruise on the Enchantment (Key West & Cozumel). She had lots of fun cause she went with 5 of her friends from work. She liked the ship and also thought the Beatles show was fantastic. Unfortunately, it was that group's last cruise on the Enchantment. I'm disappointed cause my husband and I are sailing on Saturday for the 5-nighter (same itinerary as Shellynewh), and we were looking forward to seeing the "Beatles". Luckily though, the cruise director, Matt Baker will still be on the ship with us. icon_biggrin.gif

WOW!! What a difference an itinerary, or weather, or cruisemates can make! Did the 5 day on Enchantment with the KW/Cozumel/Belize 2 weeks ago and we're still raving (positively). Seems like we were on a different planet, cuz it was definitely the same ship. How you could not be at least slightly entertained--if not infected--by CD Matt Baker is beyond me. Lesson learned for you I guess. Back to Carnival I reckon, where you know you'll be pleased. That's the beauty of the free world we live in . . . .

hokie78 we have to agree with you. we are still raving about the enchantment. i think we were on the same cruise as shellynewh (4/17-4/23) and we had a great time. service was fantastic, ship is in great shape, food while not 5 star was anywhere between good to excellent and we thougt the variety in the windjammer was fine also you could have gotten hot dogs, hamburgers, fries and pizza in the solarium if you didn't like tacos. matt baker was just fantastic and the shows were great. definately right about alot of smokers but just had our drinks walking around. we had a great time and our looking forward to the brillance in april 05
